Tripping
Tripping, a new social site that promises “where travelers meet locals” is relative new (one year) service that started out as a place to meet locals when traveling, hear their stories, and possibly stay in their homes.
Tripping
From the site:
“Tripping is a strong community because – at its core – are people who genuinely care about making the world a better place through cultural exchange. Trippers tend to do good things for each other simply because that’s a good thing to do. (Call it karma, old fashioned hospitality or whatever you like.)
“Our community relies on the generosity of locals who give their time and energy to visiting Trippers. And Trippers, in turn, get a chance to return that generosity by helping with the dishes, bringing a bottle of wine or even just sharing stories about their home.
“For something that has nothing to do with money, you’re going to feel very rich here. We only ask that you treat everyone with respect and kindness. And, no doubt, you’ll receive it in return.”
New Discovery Engine
Last week, Tripping announced a new addition to the service that allows users to find places to stay through a 500,000+ listing through sites like HomeAway, Flipkey, Roomara, iStopOver, and 9flats in an effort to turn Tripping into the largest aggregator for peer-to-peer home rentals.
The new discovery engine enables travelers to search for people and rentals in over 15,000 cities around the world, as well as easily view map locations and property details so that users can compare listings and get a good idea of each listing. Tripping’s engine also aggregates ratings for rentals that are listed on multiple sites, so that users can get a better sense of which sources have been used frequently and are crowd-approved.
When you upload, the discovery engine, it automatically takes you to the place you are located. It shows you other locals there who are already in the system. On the right hand side of the screen you can set your trip destination, time of stay, who and how you want to meet up (coffee or a place to stay) and then start searching. It’s a really easy to use set-up and a great way to start planning your next trip.
You can also search through room rentals the same way, but with a few different options like: setting the price and whether you want a flat or a hotel room.
If you do have a vacation in mind, I recommend heading over to the site and giving it a shot. This is a great way to get the most out of your vacation experience and truly mix with the locals. My best vacations have come when I strayed from the pack and found myself off the beaten path with the real people that live there.
